- INTRODUCTION:
- ══════════════════════════════════════════════
- This program arose out of the need to let my callers know when new files
- were added to the system without having to scan each time they logged on.
-
- The program will run if there have been new files added to the system since
- the callers last file scan (not there last logon).
-
- One important thing to note is that there will be more features added to
- this program real soon. I just want to release it as each new feature is
- added to avoid any problems down the line.
-
-
- HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:
- ══════════════════════════════════════════════
- The Program looks at all your files and comes up with the latest one added
- to your system. (This takes about 2 seconds!) and then it looks at the
- callers LAST DIR DATE in there USERS file and compares the two.
- If a file was uploaded after there LAST DIR date then it will inform the
- caller that "NEW FILES HAVE BEEN UPLOADED TO THE SYSTEM" and will ask them
- if they want to look at the new files in (A)ll the directories or just
- the (U)pload directory.
- It then proceeds to show them the new files and affords them the opportunity
- to flag them for download or download them now. Then when completed it
- ends and continues with whatever you have next in your security specific file
- or news file (more about that later)
- Sounds like this program takes a lot of time to run?
- Well, it does'nt! All this occurs in a matter of seconds! (The scanning of
- the files may take longer depending on the caller and how long it takes them
- to read the file descriptions).
-
- I have just recently added to the program 2 new text lines...
- The first line will let the caller know when new files were uploaded and the
- second line will let them know when they last scanned the file directories.
-
- One important thing to remember and it is a limitation of PCBoard is that the
- LAST DIR DATE does not get updated unless the caller views ALL the new files
- uploaded since there last file scan.
-
-
- COMMAND LINES:
- ══════════════════════════════════════════════
-
- I recommend placing the following lines at the end of your Security specific
- bulletins.
-
- Line XX - LEAVE THIS BLANK
- Line XX - LEAVE THIS BLANK
- Line XX - !C:\DIRECTORY OF PPE\NUSCAN.PPE
-
- I have received ALOT! of mail stating "What are security specific conferences?"
-
- Well, here we go...
- PCBoard has the ability to produce bulletins or news items for a specific
- security level.
- This is a plain text file named as the security level you wish to show it to.
- For example: If you wanted to show a special text or ANSI screen to only your
- callers with a security level of 20 then you would name that text file...20
- An ANSI screen would be 20G.
- Then place that file in the DRIVE\PCB\GEN directory.
-
- Here is what my security specific file for level 80 (visiting SysOps) looks
- like:
-
- ╥ ╥ ┬ ╥──┐ ╥ ╓──┐ ╓──┐ ╓─╥─┐ ╥──┐ ╥ ┬ ─╥─ ╓─┐ ─╥─ ╓─╥─┐ ─╥─ ╓──┐ ╓──┐

- !C:\PCB\PPL\NUSCAN.PPE <-- Here is my command to run the NUSCAN.PPE
-
-
- --END--
-
- This prorgram can also be used in your NEWS file just by placing the command,
- either at the beginning of the file or the end.
- But be aware that you must set your NEWS file in PCBSETUP to run all the
- time and not just when updated or it will not run the way it was intended.
- You can also use this screen in a specific conference.
- Make a text file named INTRO and add the above 3 lines.
- Make sure that you have the location of the INTRO file named in the conference,
- in your PCBSETUP.
- (Choose Conferences from PCBSETUP, pick the conference you wish to show the
- file in and make sure the location of the INTRO file is filled in.)

- CONFIGURATION File (NUSCAN.CFG):
- ══════════════════════════════════════════════
-
- Due to requests from some users of NUSCAN, I have added a config file to
- change the colors.
- Lines #1 through #4 are PCB color codes. In the NUSCAN.CFG file it will
- explain what each one does.
- I highly recommend using PCBEDIT to edit this file unless you remember what
- each PCB color code is :-)
